My YE review: Was told I got Mondays off, was told I got Tuesdays off when it was a long weekend, although nothing that was stopping the team from performing normal tasks. Mostly i had my life’s most important event, having a baby and by policy I could have got 4 month off as “paternity”, yes I confirmed it twice, but I only took 2 months as only me and my wife were there to support each other, alas , this probably became the reason of me being laid off, Was told I am a “senior resource” and my thoughts and actions were blocked at the same time. !!!And that’s how I got partially meet expectations as my YE review (idk if this is a satire).!! Just after working for this organization 13X7 for few weeks post my parental leaves for 2 months (which I’ll be always thankful for this org, THAT THEY HAVE THE BEST POLICY IN INDUSTRY OF 4 MONTHS IN A YEAR IRRESPECTIVE TO GENDER),. Real story : my baby crying in back with mommy even away for 10 mins and I am on a call kind of, having the first child in my life, which same first child in my peers life, some of or most of them studying in 12th grade by now. Ask the new joiners (offshore and onshore )how I accommodated them and mentored them, rather than telling me I need to have deep knowledge, I guess I’ll be the only one who first talked to them nicely from anybody in the development team which I can vouch for, more than me. Go ask them. Still my *manager* no name , let’s call him that, to be precise giving me bad comments , just cause of politics, that he took so much struggle coming to this level and a more younger and different thinking guy is on his level . Indians in every country, idk how many countries they are in, I guess from the globe , CUT INDIANS THEMSELVES.!, MAYBE A GOOD SMAMARITAN , MAYBE A REAL GOOD HUSBAND AND PARENT, MAYBE ONE THEY CAN BE MENTOR TO, Doing differentiation between a group that he hired from his previous job and are his puppets, I am nobody’s puppet other than my organization. I would leave this job rn if you still think I am not the right person, but will not take this politics and favouratisms and biasedness to me be a reason of somebody telling me that I am lacking in my duties, no sir, you are messing with the wrong guy.! If you have made ur decision it’s all good , if you haven’t thought about it, I can hire 5 people that I know, in more lesser amount in India and give you better results than shouting on people and getting your job done. They are that professional and more technically advanced than just knowing Linux or scripting, which I unfortunately didnt knew that much when I was hired, I thought infra and software development are two different streams, maybe because of modernization of tech stack around the globe post 2015, but was eager to learn and implemented as well to my extent. So as we keep the foundation of one of our most revenues stream, I can suggest that we take some steps towards what I contemplated above. But I will not, and cannot take politics for performance ever. With the new streak of out-of college people, that the organization has hired and is planning to hiring, them coming in and doing the job you’ll also need seniors who can gel with them making them more stronger towards the organizational goals , rather than shouting at them and meeting daily goals, I understand having bugs costs us a lot , but losing talented people will cost us more in terms of hiring which you know is a long shot game. Which I am sure you know better than me. we should also focus on retaining talent with the knowledge “our” system imparted them with. In long run I feel like this can be a problem. At the end defining roles and responsibilities for every person is the key rather than making them owner of everything, as even our worst security doesn’t work that way.!! Giving in written ur so called CCM that’s about to bring in business will loose their business in first 2-3 yrs .!! If you are the sharks, there are whales coming up with 99 miles/hr.! You are done in 2-3 yrs.! Then what you gonna do? Cry to employees about the achievements you haven’t done? Business you never made a dime about from.? Stop making worst stuff to ur clients and telling them that they matter the most.! So at the end, they laid me off so they can brag at the rest of the team how. “Action” was taken, so all team members will be afraid of them and work like literal puppets to them and attain just NOTHING. I wrote this on 12th Dec and I got laid off around 8th Jan 2024, just in case you think I am just venting.! I am not.! :) they did me a favour.!

Pros

There is real opportunity for career and skill growth. The company runs short on head count, so people willing to take on more responsibilities have avenues to progress. However, you will need to force the issue for promotions & large salary increases after you prove your capabilities. Realistically it'll take an external counteroffer to move the needle.

Cons

It's a large bank and you're a number in the system. If your NPV is positive you'll stay, else you'll be laid off. This includes both scenarios you control and those you don't. Ex. You control your performance, in office time and networking You don't control if your location is a strategic growth site, if a major client goes with a competitor, or if you'd be impacted by a general company-wide layoff plan.
