Losing good people - Architectural Designer BRPH Companies Employee Review

Pros

The two Senior Architects in the office are knowledgeable and willing to mentor in their spare time. They encourage questions and do their best to explain and show mid level and juniors the ropes. The company's A and E Department is trying to rebuild itself.

Cons

Senior Architects are spread thin and often have little time to mentor or respond to questions. People above them are not experienced and often are asking senior architects how things are suppose to work with permitting and various other processes. Company culture is traditional and they do not find value in remote work. I unfortunately experienced discrimination under the current management, which is ultimately what drove me to exit. This included being barred from professional opportunities, having to jump through hoops to get my schedule reapproved when others did not, being talked down to, and attempted public shaming for questions or perceived mistakes. Although they are rebuilding I do think they have a ways to go and it does not seem as if they have a solid path forward or solid leadership at the helm.

Pros

Family focused. I enjoy the work life balance. Managers and supervisors are fair. Options to improve and move up. Employee owned and you earn stock in the company. Non toxic work environment.

Cons

Some roles don’t have a career ladder in support sections.

Pros

There are many opportunities to get involved because the team is very small and the office is struggling. I left due to poor management and leadership. 5 others quit, including the two people who hired me, while I was there.

Cons

Not family-friendly, not a great location if you live in Decatur, not enough pay for what you have to endure.
