Bachem is where safety and careers go to die. Chemists are exposed to volatile carcinogens on a daily basis and are not compensated with hazard pay or even a decent wage. EHS Department is a joke and unqualified for handling EHS related issues. Organic chemicals are stored outside and inevitably spill (causing unknown environmental harm), but don’t worry it gets cleaned up several days later. DCM/EDT/NEM/TFA/Ether vapors are unavoidable and the ventilation system is inadequate despite what management says. Facility is not maintained well, the roof has been leaking brown water (for years) every time it rains. Everyone is overworked, underpaid and underappreciated. Employees come in and out like a revolving door and management “can’t figure it out”. Stay away from this place. Sexual harassment allegations don’t get investigated properly. HR claims are not taken seriously in general. Work culture is extremely toxic, Upper-management yells at people during meetings and doesn't care about their employees. The company only cares about making as much money as fast as they can with no regard for how sustainable the production schedule is and sacrificing quality just to hit deadlines. If deliverable deadlines are delayed you are pressured to work 12+ hour shifts or even work on a holiday or weekend. Bachem deploys an annual employee satisfaction survey and promises change but never commits. Bachem has some of the hardest working people and some of the laziest people, so you’ll have to pick up the slack for those who do not do their job properly. Health benefits are spectacular though- you’re going to need it when you develop cancer from working there.
