Pros

BambooHR is an active, friendly environment that provides a lot of room for growth. I enjoyed the team that I worked with and made lots of friends. They also give you a vacation stipend every year (I got to go on three total vacations with this) and have decent benefits otherwise too. PTO accrual was great. The training was very thorough and engaging. I felt that what I learned through this role prepared me for other jobs in the finance field quite well. If you are energized from and enjoy working with outside clients every day, this job will be a good fit for you. The software for the most part is well set-up.

Cons

Management made a lot of changes in the time I was there that made our lives more difficult. You were also expected to give a very high amount of effort for pay that was mediocre. Certain positions require you to basically be on the phone all day nonstop which can be extremely draining, and you get berated if you do not meet their metric expectations, even when some things are out of your control. Lots of clients got passed our way that were frustrated because they felt they had been deceived in the sales process about what our software could do, and in turn they gave us negative reviews, which made our performance look poor even when we helped them to the best of our ability. Many members of my team were also quitting at the same time that I left because they felt stressed constantly trying to attain the very high weekly goals that were being asked for. We had a meeting in which they basically announced that there was no room for growth or promotions for anyone in the foreseeable future which was the last straw for a lot of people. Lots of us were in a private group chat together just so we could express how we truly felt about things as we did not feel safe doing so during meetings with management. Toxic positivity was rampant and no one felt like they could say anything bad about policy changes or new pay structures. I also agree with the other reviews that have mentioned the somewhat "juvenile" trainings that we had. It felt like a lot of the focus was on being a quirky, cool place to work and patting themselves on the back rather than addressing the underlying issues with the software.

Pros

For many years, BambooHR was a genuinely great place to work. Most of the people are outstanding, and the company built its reputation on a culture of trust, autonomy, and empowerment. I made lifelong friendships here and learned a tremendous amount during my time with the company.

Cons

The BambooHR of today feels very different from the BambooHR that attracted so many employees in the first place. Over time, the culture has become more corporate and political, with decision-making increasingly centralized and less autonomy for managers and teams. The company that once encouraged ownership and trusted employees to help shape outcomes now feels more focused on top-down alignment and process. For those who value autonomy, influence, and being heard, this shift can be frustrating. Compensation and career growth have also become less compelling for long-tenured employees. I chose to leave because I no longer felt aligned with the leadership philosophy, the cultural direction, or the career path available to me. While I’m grateful for my time here, I would encourage candidates to understand that the culture many former employees speak fondly about may not be the culture they experience today.
