Pros

Benefits were solid with lots of options.

Cons

Despite satisfactory to well-above-average employee reviews each year and building a Private Bank book of assets under management from $0 to $1.0 BILLION from my start date to departure (an eight year period), my first year at BofA's Private Bank was my highest compensation year. One year, as a "Top Performer", bringing in over $1.2 million in new annual revenue to the firm, my bonus was unchanged because I "picked a bad time to have a good year." As an aside, for the first six of my years, there were NO cost of living adjustments to my base salary. There is zero correlation between individual performance and compensation, but each year you will be told how important and valuable you are to the team. Only to have comp cut again the following year. Portfolio Managers are not valued by BofA, this is the reality and it is not going to change under current management. Stay away unless you are coasting to the finish line in your career.

Pros

Starting pay $25 + $35 per referral to Merrill Lynch. Medical + 401k match + HSA available Plenty of opportunity for promotion as long as you meet expectations and adhere to compliance. Fortunate to have worked with very good people. Learn a lot about the finance industry, good training program.

Cons

Position is more sales driven than job description leads on to believe. A lot of compliance responsibilities given that it is an entry level position. 3 weeks of paid vacation is good but set 1 year in advance and is based on tenure so new employees get last pick or get superseded by seniority. Saturdays are worked at least once per month. Have heard horror stories about some managers but have not experienced that myself.
