Pros

- okay salary. - plenty of opportunities to upskill yourself into different roles in the bank. - they provide you uniform. - you get a yearly bonus of some sort. - they are super inclusive of all ethnicities, sexualities etc etc. - if you work with good people, you’ll get through the day quite easily. - lots of the country Branch people are really really nice!

Cons

- very “tick & flick” with everything. They want to know how you are feeling and your well-being but only so they can say they have asked, they don’t really want to hear you say anything but “I am good”. - they have this thing they disguise as “happy chats” which is truly just working on the call centre and they fail to tell you that you’ll be working on a call centre when you apply for the job with them. They also expect you to work in a call centre with no call centre facilities (you’ll have one computer screen, an old landline phone and slow internet). It’s a very hated job. - it’s all about “immediacy” & “first responders” and they want you to drop everything to serve a customer even if you are on 2 staff members. - and that brings me to my last point: low staff. There’s a MAJOR shortage of staff at Bankwest (especially country locations) causing Branches to have to shut multiple days in a week, lots of angry customers and so on. Yet they seem to not care. It’s almost like it’s all part of their plan to cull all the staff and close the bank at 1pm (like other OFI’s) and get everyone on happy chats all afternoon. Even when you are on 2 staff members that are spread super thin and travelling to neighbouring Branches to keep their doors open, you still have tonnes of work to do.

Pros

Great culture, Flexibility, Nice building, Talented people, strong processes and always evolving tech stack.

Cons

Sometime work can be monotonous, if you are stuck in a team for long time. Finding opportunities to move across teams, you have to fend for yourselves, people leaders too busy or aloof to help.
