Pros
The staff work really hard as it is a very high paced environment. There is little oversight, but mostly self-driven individuals keep the department running fairly safely through disasters despite poor management.
Cons
The current management is seeking employment elsewhere after poorly managing for several years, but hopefully replacements will improve the state of things. The current incentive system rewards lazy, selfish workers while people that actually work for improving the department are actually discouraged either through lack of support or lack of recognition. There is a lack of the sense of team in the department, it is very segmented and current management seems to make things worse by pitting staff members against each other and removing themselves from staff. There is no human connection as they strive to make the department feel like a corporation.
