Culture is very bad here, especially in IT. As many others have said, you move up the ranks via politics, not through proficiency, if you move up at all. You can play the politics game and be an incredible developer, and be given more work. You’ll get a promotion, with a paltry (or no) raise, and double the work. Management is not trustworthy at all. They will lie to you, they might even lie in the interview. They wrote you a promise? Oops, it fell through. Career advancement? Forget it. Training? You can take all of the classes you want, but Dunning-Kruger will prevail. Experience? You need to do it “the Barings way”. The Barings way is going to be the worst, most convoluted, manual, and error prone way you can do something. Enjoy. You found an improvement? “You’re going to do 24-hour support on it because no one else knows what to do”. Yes, I’m serious. I was placed on a project that, in my manager’s own words, I was “going to hate”. And there was no plan to improve the project, despite people working 80+ hours a week! I think that was the only honest feedback I received, because boy were they right. All other promises of career advancement and projects magically fell through. At one point, I was told if I wanted to do other work, I could work on side projects outside of work. If I had an improvement to a workflow or any innovation, that was exclusively to be done outside of work. Prepare to be condescended, threatened, and bullied by these people. You can let HR know, and you will hear nothing back. That’s the best you can hope for. If something does happen, it won’t be in your favor, and it will probably make the situation way worse. Feedback is a minefield. I’ve never wound up walking on eggshells so much in my life. So, as one other reviewer put in his/her survival tips, do not give feedback. Do not rock the boat. In fact, the survival tips review is perfect. Work life balance depends on the project you’re on and the manager you have. In my experience, this has been a mixed bag. I’ve had great balance, and 80 hour weeks, depending on where I was and who I was under. TL;DR: Do not join this company. It is not worth it. Read the other reviews and stay far away.
