Pros

Competitive wage (unless you're a minority); Interns start at about 16$/hr. > Bilingual (Fluent) +1$ > Driver+1$ > CDL +$2 > Climber +1$ > Lead Person/Technician +1$. Lots of overtime when there's work. Plenty to learn. Exciting/fun at times, everyday is a different scenario that comes with it's own set of challenges. Weekend work is voluntary not forced.

Cons

Work/Life balance is grim. Outdoor work, so you're exposed to the elements. Seasonal; busy summers and slow winters, some times there's no work because of bad weather. Hard labor work style, which causes a high turnover rate. Lead Persons are reluctant to teach, they'd rather have you stay as a Ground Person so they can do the climbing; this is largely why I left the company, hindered progress and I didn't inspire to be a Sells Rep. When I left the company I was making more than my Lead Person who was of a minority ethnicity and had been with the company for about 8 years. That just didn't sit right with me because they seem to take advantage of their employees when they can. New Hires are often forgot about by upper management. The Sales Reps. (Supervisors) said a I was a fast learner and smart but I stayed as a Ground Person for 6 Months.

Pros

The field work itself is interesting for those with a background in forestry Working outside on beautiful properties with clients who love their yards and the work you do is refreshing. Some employees may clock 8 hours and be out and home by noon. Plant health care specialist get to work on tree crews in the winter.

Cons

The vibe here isn't great. Some people are pushed through certifications and its just not safe. They're all about profit, even if it means wasting money and resources for a quick buck. Not enough safety gear – I was told to use the same gloves for pesticides for a whole month! Equipment never works, and they expect us to fix everything. Not enough work or chances to grow. Nobody seems to care. Management's communication is all over the place and often unprofessional. There's no support either. New hires are just left to figure things out,
