Pros
I worked for the ground systems division and I absolutely loved it. It is such a fantastic project to be a part of. Culture: I really enjoyed the people that I worked with. As a co-op you will interact more with the technicians than the engineers, but this is an important perspective to learn. Learn how to design things to be installed easily. Never say, 'it worked in the CAD, idk why it doesn't work out here.' Things like that. The engineers are a bit mixed, some are extremely nice and will always help you if they aren't overwhelmed with work; others are a little less friendly but that's okay. You can't expect everyone to be the same. Opportunities: the basic job was essentially just to write, update, and manage the production documents. But you can do much more than this if you keep your eyes peeled. It's a place where you can grow, learn, and develop yourself.
Cons
Mentorship: the one downside was that I got zero design experience from this. Granted, it is a manufacturing engineering position and not a mechanical engineering position. Now, the engineers gave me plenty of random tasks to do so I could learn more and gain more exposure, though it was generally in the form of me asking them for something rather than them giving me something (though that did happen occasionally). It would have been nicer if there were more engineering related projects assigned to the co-ops under the supervision of a full time engineer.
