Pros
Opportunities for overseas experience (exaggerated in interviews) Robust systems for project execution The Bechtel "A Team" is fantastic Landmark projects Diverse industry exposure, if you are mobile there are a wide range of opportunities
Cons
There is a strong "ageist" element to Bechtel culture where perceived age outweighs experience and performance. As a younger person in the organisation it can feel like you are wasting your time. Management culture- poor performers neither coached nor punished but instead moved to a new area. Poor management foresight - short to medium term thinking seems to dominate. Frequent management reshuffles mean that your career is frequently in the hands of someone who has never spoken to you. Make sure you get in on good pay, once you start the increases (and bonuses) are generally very low, the general wisdom is that you need to leave and then come back to keep up with market rates. Clunky and outdated in-house IT systems. Very poor work life balance, they are making efforts to improve this at the top, but this isn't reaching the old school middle management types.
