Pros
There are frequent workday kool-aid, uh...cocktail...parties, which have required attendance...this is only a pro if you're into that sort of thing or if you've had a particularly rough day, which is very likely at this company. For those that thrive on stress and last-minute, unrealistic deadlines, look no further--you've found the right company for you!
Cons
This company is the laughingstock of the educational publishing industry. Mention it to those in the know, and you'll often be met with what can only be described as an apologetic look. The company does well despite its reputation-they're always hiring, they just upsized their warehouse, and they regularly get state adoptions for their literacy programs. But, the environment can only be described as a circus. The husband-wife duo who own and oversee BEC control all aspects of the company, and decisions as minor as font size and what to order for the company lunch are always left to them. There are so many control issues here. There's a revolving door at BEC; the only employees who stay are those who are local and don't want to commute into NYC, those who haven't found an alternative job, and a few who drink from the steady supply of Kool-Aid. I encourage anyone to interview there; usually you'll get a sense of the madness (literally) within a few minutes. But I strongly discourage anyone from taking a position with this company. It is very hard to escape, and will leave a permanent scar on your resume.
