Pros
The hours are pretty flexible. You can build a schedule that fits your needs. Usually. It's hard to achieve full time status though.
Cons
Can't get enough hours. No benefits or vacation/sick pay for part time. Must have at least 30 hours continuously for at least a few months to be considered full-time. If you work even one week of 29 hours because a child you care for was sick, you have to start all over again working at least 30 hours every week for several months. With these children and their families, something always comes up. I've been there for over two years. Still haven't achieved full-time status yet. They started me at a lower pay than a man I had more experience than. (I'm female).
