Pros
I've been with BetterUp for over 4 years now, and honestly, it's a truly special place to work. When I started, I was focused on operations, but since then I've gotten to try my hand at so many different things - launching products, diving into coaching and behavioral science, and even working on enterprise sales and implementation. The opportunities to grow here have been incredible. What kind of person thrives at BetterUp? If you're ambitious, motivated from within, and enjoy a creative, collaborative environment, you'll probably love it here. The standards are definitely high - no getting around that - but I've come to realize that's actually how I prefer to work. It's this unique mix of high expectations alongside creative freedom that makes this place stand out.
Cons
Of course, it's not all perfect (what workplace is?). Like any fast-paced tech company, there's plenty of ambiguity, tough problems to crack, intense sprint periods where everyone's pushing hard, and yeah, some processes that are holdovers from earlier days that could use updating. But even with the challenges, I've found the work surprisingly sustainable and actually life-giving in many ways. For one thing, the people here are genuinely kind and want to see you succeed. They'll teach you, help you, listen to you - that's not something you find everywhere. The company also builds in real time to recharge - summer break, winter break, holidays, these "Inner Work" days, plus my manager actually encourages me to take more vacation on top of all that. And one of the best perks? BetterUp gives everyone a coach, which has been huge for my growth, not just at work but as a dad and husband too. Weirdly enough, I'm in better physical shape now than I was as a teenager! I've improved my sleep, gotten better at communicating with my spouse, learned to meditate... I could go on. Oh, and after 5 years, there's a five-week sabbatical, plus this amazing opportunity to go on a two-week inner work trip hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Bottom line: BetterUp is unique, challenging, and genuinely enriching. It's not for everyone, but if you're up for pushing yourself while being supported in your whole-person growth, it might be exactly what you're looking for.
