Pros

Opportunity to work with cutting edge hardware and software. Most associates are intelligent and collaborative. There have been a few bad apples, but they don't seem to last long. Great pay. I've always been at or above market when I've taken the initiative to provide my leadership with current market data. Some will complain about layoffs at the end of 2015. I am actually happy the company has the good sense to cut dead weight to keep the company profitable for the majority of employees. Company 401k match is the best I've seen. Work/life balance is excellent. There are some reviews here that claim work/life balance is poor. I'm not sure which department those folks belong(ed) to. I've been in tech ops, finance and marketing and the work/life balance has always been far better than I've experienced at other companies. Working with directors and VPs across the organization is great. Can be very effective implementing good ideas if you are a professional. Those who argue and try to strategize don't get much attention. Hard to overstate the opportunities for growth at this company if you are bright, honest and a good collaborator. Opportunity is the biggest reason I've stayed with the company long term. Patrick. Too many critics. He's a fascinating person and his ability to digest and retain information is impressive. Listening to what he has to say can be a master class on economics and philosophy. These comments are my own and not prompted by anyone else.

Cons

I've been with Overstock since 2005 and there have been some growing pains, but overall it has been a great experience. Would love to see the stock price improve and I think we could be much better at CRM. Personally not a fan of elaborate company parties, but I understand there are many who enjoy them. Internal facilities team is top notch but landlord of the corporate building is bad news. Building layout can also be counter-productive at times. Physical facilities should be much better in the new building managed by Overstock facilities team and organized like a legit online retailer.

Pros

Fast paced environment with LOTS of hands-on experience with many different tools. The people are the reason to stay, lots of smart and caring people, managers, and leaders towards the bottom of the food chain.

Cons

Upper Management has completely destroyed this company and gutted it. In my several years at the company, communication is as poor as it could be. Bonuses are promised and then not followed up on. RIFs happen far too frequently. It is abundantly clear that this company does NOT care about it's employees, and at the moment is almost seems like they are trying as hard as they can to get people to quit so they don't have to pay severances before acquiring more companies and moving headquarters to Texas. The culture in the days of Overstock was incredible, it made people excited about being able to work there. Now people are hanging on by threads, large teams are now carried on the backs of just 1-2 people without additional pay as we see co-workers get laid off left and right. It is not sustainable. Important things are being missed because there are not enough people to do the work, which will end up biting the company in the butt for compliance and finance reasons.
