Pros

Interesting products, a lot of smart people, fairly low stress environment that respects work-life balance. Respectable mission with an ability to positively impact the world.

Cons

If you're a serious software engineer weighing your options, you might want to think twice before jumping on board here. There are several notable challenges that warrant consideration: Despite an abundance of product and project management roles, there's a puzzling lack of clear direction beyond the current sprint. Strategic vision seems perpetually stuck in the "coming soon" phase. Projects are fragmented across so many groups that understanding the full scope requires near-superhuman abilities. So much time is wasted in huge meetings, agile product ceremonies, and other appeasements to process rather than results. The bureaucracy is off the charts. Software teams often find themselves scrambling to catch up with hardware changes rather than collaborating proactively. Technical teams are largely left to navigate challenges independently while some management appears to be comfortably cruising toward retirement. The QA team is not only ineffective, but slows down development considerably. Low performers across teams are given a long leash. The performance management system consists primarily of an annual ritual where you diligently document goals that will hibernate in a digital folder until next year's ceremony. High performers looking for meaningful growth opportunities may find themselves disappointed. Prepare to spend considerable time clicking through outdated compliance modules that appear designed primarily to satisfy the legal department rather than develop relevant skills. Middle management often operates with limited visibility into actual project realities. When executives occasionally express concerns, it triggers a flurry of reactive initiatives that rarely integrate smoothly with existing workflows. For Bay Area standards, compensation packages are notably conservative. Annual increases consistently trail inflation, performance bonuses have elusive targets (with no ability to directly impact them), and company stock performance (i.e. tanking) affects the value of equity compensation. The company maintains a particularly aggressive stance on intellectual property matters, which potential employees or partners should carefully consider. If you are a small company Bio-Rad is interested in acquiring, prepare to be bullied into submission. Overall, the current state of Bio-Rad seems pretty miserable. If you're desperate for a job, give them a shot. Otherwise you're better off looking elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. You've already moved on, but we hope that you were able to communicate some of the challenges you faced while you were here to help us improve. It may also be the case that you were part of our recent restructuring plan and were exited with severance but perhaps not a focus on your specific ideas. Whenever possible it is our policy to provide employees with an exit interview. Regardless, we wish you the very best in the next stage of your career journey.

Pros

I love my co workers and the ability to make my customers happy. Benefits are alright and I do like the products.

Cons

Modern marketing is non existent and the company has been taken over by sweater vest tech bros who feel phony at best. This company is too large to innovate or be nimble, yet too small to acquire new things to sell. Salaries are just so low now that I might need to leave, then come back just to get a pay raise. I’m seeing similar jobs posted for 20% more base than I make 10 years in. No transparency on advancements and annual raises do not reflect effort and making too close to plan on sales just sets you up for failure in the next year. I’d say use this company for a few years then move on.
