Pros

People. The opportunity to meet very smart, dedicated and motivated people is one of the best benefits of working for this firm. These are colleagues you will know throughout your career. The people are not only dedicated to the firm's mission but are equally dedicated to supporting one another's success.

Cons

Management. No matter how hard they try, they can't seem to figure out how to put the correct people in management roles. Unfortunately, they make two common mistakes. The managers either are home grown with so many priorities on their plate they have limited band width to mentor their staffs or, they hire from the outside and these managers lack the understanding of the culture to be effective. To add to this misfortune, BlackRock is not good about reacting to credible feedback. Even when employees provide professional, documented feedback, little to no action to replace the bad managers is taken. While the HR department has some well papered leadership, these problems are not something they believe require the appropriate attention.

Pros

Branding branding branding!!! an incredible brand, and having it on your resume opens some doors but not all.

Cons

The Preqin acquisition never really found its identity after becoming part of BlackRock. It felt like the focus shifted from listening to clients to fitting Preqin into a broader BlackRock strategy. As AI changes how firms access and analyze private market data, simply being a data provider isn’t enough anymore. My impression was that Preqin’s long-term value is likely to come from being integrated into the broader Aladdin ecosystem and APIs, rather than remaining a standalone platform. Leadership would benefit from spending more time listening to customers and the teams on the front lines instead of assuming they already know what the market wants.
