Decent place to work, but compensation doesn't really move once you're in - Custody Operations BlackRock Employee Review

Pros

Prestige, everyone knows BlackRock. Easy to move around if you get bored with your current role. BlackRock University is awesome for technical and soft skill workshops.

Cons

Some of the managers never leave their offices and don't empower or talk to employees. Decent pay to start, and then it slowly (2-3% per year) creeps up, even for the great employees. I've seen this time and time again. Promotions are political, so you really have to network, which is a good if you're outgoing, but bad if you're shy even if you're an outstanding employee

Pros

Work can be very interesting, impactful, and everybody is (mostly) very kind and intelligent. They don't hire dumb people.

Cons

Truly insane there is no free food or drinks. Culture feels very stiff and sterile despite not being particularly formal. Hard to get a raise or promoted. If your business has a bad executive, your whole world suffers. Can be extremely relationship based in bad ways.
