Pros

Honestly, the only pro at this point is the warm fuzzy feeling you get from feeling like you're making a difference within the NFP space. Coworkers are great, outside of the c-suite team.

Cons

Went through a massive reorg in the middle of COVID, and laid off 10% of the staff. Would've been fine if they pulled back on the reach of the organization to accommodate and rebuild, but instead, the remaining employees were told to pick up the slack with no salary restructure or raise. Hard to stay motivated when we're expected to do 3x the work, all while we're fundraising record-breaking amounts of money, despite the pandemic. Wouldn't it make sense to pay the people we have, versus spending endless amounts of time and money on onboarding and new hire training? The org is hemorrhaging staff, and c-suite acts as if they don't understand why. New COO has never worked in nonprofit, and is driving the org into the ground. I found out he also has been bringing a ton of former GAP higher ups on board for his team, and they are all treating this organization as a retail company. We're in the people industry, and hosting enjoyable fundraising events and cultivating relationships with our donors is the most important job we have. Taking away an elevated experience has led to longtime donors and volunteers walking away. I'm burnt out. I'm mentally checked out. I told my boss if I didn't get a meaningful raise due to the amount of work I've taken on and the crazy amount of money we raised last year, that I would be out the door. I can't wait to leave.

Pros

Flexible hours (but with the implementation of meeting metrics, poor schedule). Great time off and benefits.

Cons

The mission is inspiring, but employee well-being often feels secondary to organizational demands. Chronic understaffing, high turnover, and frequent organizational changes create an environment where employees are expected to take on responsibilities far beyond their job descriptions. Workloads can become unsustainable, particularly during campaign seasons, leading to burnout and low morale. Goals and budget expectations are often aggressive and may not reflect local market realities or available resources. Employees are held accountable for outcomes that can be heavily influenced by factors outside of their control, while support and staffing do not always keep pace with expectations. Communication and transparency from leadership could be improved. Decisions affecting employees are sometimes made without meaningful input from those doing the day-to-day work, and organizational restructuring can create uncertainty and instability. Many talented and passionate employees leave because they feel overworked, undervalued, and unsupported despite their dedication to the mission. While working at a regional office, there was strong lack of trust towards the national office from all of the employees.
