Pros
Part of Bloomberg. Very stable compared to your average company, especially financial firms. Really do take a long-term view. Lots of people who have been with the company for many years. In general I would say Bloomberg takes good care of its people and it's a good place to start a career. Being part of Bloomberg can have a lot of advantages. A lot of potential here.
Cons
Overall very political. Very much driven out of New York - even in a large office like London decisions are often made in NY, often without those people knowing the local circumstances. Internal power is with personnel who have been with the company for years. This is very frustrating for experienced people like myself that are hired. Often introduced to "John Doe, who has been with Bloomberg for 12 years." Seniority and influence was definitely dependent on years of service. Tradebook is an outlier within overall Bloomberg. Always thought senior Bloomberg management did not know what to make of us or straight up would not work with us as they thought it was against their own clients. Within Tradebook I was amazed about how many senior managers thought that they could only get their point across by shouting. Luckily my direct manager was quite the opposite.
