Pros
-Lots of gratis -You get to work with a wide variety of product lines -Lots of product training
Cons
-Abusive upper management. Problems are addressed with yelling and threats -The hours are long and the schedule is not consistent. I often worked 8 days in a row with one day off. I had to take long lunches so they could keep me at the store for 10 hours without being paid overtime -MANY labor violations. During my time there I was denied bathroom and lunch breaks on a regular basis. I worked a 12 hour shift with one 30 minute break. One time I was at the store completely alone for 8 hours with no bathroom break, no lunch break, nothing. -They are always trying to short you on your checks so read them carefully -Sales associates are in charge of EVERYTHING in the store - cleaning the bathroom, mopping the floor, vacuuming, accounting, creating displays, wiping the windows, training new employees (which there almost always are because turnover is so high) all while the store is open and we are supposed to be selling. -Holiday season is sheer hell. -The entire company is a disorganized mess. Upper management will get angry and yell at you for THEIR OWN MISTAKES. There is no such thing as apologizing and taking responsibility for mistakes in this company. By the time I finally quit after only six months (longer than most employees last at the company) I was constantly anxious, depressed, and sometimes borderline suicidal because of the constant barrage of harassment coming at me at work and also off the clock through email. My friends, family, and boyfriend were worried about me as I had become distant. I actually feel like I have mild PTSD from this job and have considered seeing a therapist to talk about it.
