Pros

Good benefits. Great 401K. If you are okay with stupidity, it's not that difficult of a place to work. In other words, if you are a mediocre blustering blow hard, you will have found your people!

Cons

I was told people referred to Boeing as "The Lazy B" because no one cared what they were doing. I assumed that this was just an exaggeration. Like many large, older organizations, people make such jokes. But they are not THAT bad. Well, this one IS that bad. It was no joke; lame, toxic culture, riddled with pompous, self-important jerks, ridiculous red tape, and stupid processes. The core culture has become so institutionalized they don't realize that they are mediocre at best. They have NO idea how to build software. They are so arrogant they don't listen to those who do. They favor surface over substance. Apparently, most of the employees had all pretty much given up; they resigned themselves to just wandering the halls sipping coffee blathering on about pointless things. The leadership is ineffectual and spineless. I was heavily recruited and had high hopes. It sounded like it was going to be exciting work and friendly people. It was not. I spoke to the manager who hired me maybe four times in three years. I was not alone. Our whole group recognized his lack of presence and absence of accountability> He was absent. I guess playing golf or hiding under his desk? We all joked about it. When he talked to us as a group, it was pathetic. Aspirational platitudes, dumb metaphors, silly business jargon.; no strategy. No idea about technology, training, or business, for that matter. Anyone with a brain entertained themselves during these nonsensical diatribes by playing buzzword bingo to try to stay awake. So, of course, he gets promoted. A shocking lack of critical thinking skills and lack of ethics. Innovation, diversity, integrity, just lip service. Pathetic. I regret taking the job.

Pros

Excellent work-life balance compared to many aerospace companies. Good benefits (healthcare, retirement, PTO).

Cons

- Five days per week in the office - Parking can be challenging. - Working across multiple time zones (U.S., Brazil, India) creates coordination overhead - Compensation is not competitive for the Seattle area. - Limited opportunities for meaningful career growth. While there are internal career paths, I haven't found many opportunities that align with the technical challenges and responsibilities I'm looking for - SPEEA's seniority-based structure can slow advancement for newer employees - Programs have very long development cycles, so it can take years to see your work become a finished product - Less exposure to cutting-edge technology than companies focused on emerging products (space, medical devices, AI hardware, quantum computing, etc. Significant bureaucracy and slow decision-making
