Collegial atmosphere for a rigorous academic environment - Graduate Teaching Assistant Boston University Employee Review

Pros

Work alongside top academicians who are both engaged in innovative theological research and value hands-on teaching. The school continues to grow more diverse and is making inroads into interfaith engagements.

Cons

Some faculty are nonresponsive to their doctoral students which delays the students' ability to move through their programs by weeks, months, or a year which creates collegial issues. Communication between departments and navigating personalities can be tricky or is sometimes ineffective. Teaching Assistants are often treated more as administrative assistants rather than doctoral students training to teach and needing significant teaching experience. Doctoral students rarely get to teach their own classes.

Pros

Great benefits! Lots of sick time holidays off. and summers are very laid back. Wish I could have stayed longer as I saw my time there as a great career opportunity. But toxicity, harassment and layoffs made me rethink staying

Cons

Management is incredibly toxic. Even after union grievances, sexual harassment claims and even a warning from the dean, managers continue to abuse staff. Incredibly sad seeing as Boston University rather lay off good employees than hold anyone from management accountable for their actions.
