Pros
...and one year later the request was somewhere lost in a never-ending email chain correspondence of numerous CC's, confusion, and creative solutions to gain the tools/resources I needed to do my job. I have met the best and worst people at this organization. (My review of the Bowen Center is highly skewed due to my proximity to leadership.) Pros--flexibility. Taken to the extreme. But also highly dependent on your supervisor. Additionally, the quality of several employees. They truly demonstrate selflessness by serving some of the most difficult residents in Northeast Indiana, making due with minimal pay, and have maintained a humble nature assisting those in need.
Cons
I am abhorred with the organizational culture. This ultimately always trickles down from leadership. Clear, self-serving biases are evident. The culture is centered around nurturing relationships rather than placing skilled, qualified employees in their respective positions. The business is extremely unorganized. Attempts made to correct this flaw are commonly met with arrogance and resistance. The concentration, instead, is placed on blaming people for the ever-burning fires. It's a culture of blame. In my personal experience, I was exposed to passive aggressive techniques such as failure to relay information to the very last minute or not at all, gossip, and questionable staff management. In one instance I witnessed a disciplinary action taking place with four management staff vs. one employee. I have also witnessed leadership operating based on who gives them the most attention. Boundary crossing is not off-limits with Bowen. In my experience, this includes stalking on social media platforms and calls/texts regardless of vacation status or time. I came across an instance of a deceptive practice at Bowen regarding a new partnership with an e-platform. An unknown sales commission was taking place, while the bulk of the work was implemented through a separate channel and employment team. I can only assume this is one instance of many. Overall, a culture of broken structure, communication failures, and the blame game is extremely unhealthy. I do hope structure emerges and the correct teams are put in place, but this will take cleaning house and a significant chunk of time. If you are looking to apply to Bowen, I strongly advise against it.
