Pros

Working at Braze has been an incredible experience. The core leadership team at Braze has built a culture rooted in one of our company values, “Be a Human." There is a strong sense of empathy, collaboration, and authenticity across the company, which isn’t always easy to find in tech and makes me truly proud to work at Braze. My manager is incredibly supportive and empathetic, which greatly impacts my day-to-day experience. I feel empowered to do my best work, grow in my role, and chart my career path. We have an open line of communication, and she gives me direct and honest feedback, in real-time, which aligns with my growth mindset and the way I’ve expressed I prefer to help me develop and refine my skills effectively. The company also prioritizes learning and development, making it an ideal environment for professionals who want to continuously improve in an ever-evolving environment. In my role, I am engaged in cross-functional projects. With this level of collaboration, there’s a shared sense of ownership and accountability, where different teams actively partner to solve challenges. Beyond the culture at Braze, it's rewarding to work at company whose product actually delivers on our promises. So many tech companies overpromise and underdeliver, but at Braze, we empower our customers with a best-in-class platform that truly drives impact to our customers. It makes my job much easier, knowing that we can focus on enabling our teams to lean into our value drivers and core differentiators and trust that our product and services at Braze will deliver.

Cons

Braze is a company where you need to be a self-starter, internally driven, and agile. Our core values encourage everyone to take ownership of solving challenges in a dynamic environment. This is incredibly empowering if you thrive in an environment where you can take initiative, bring new ideas, and drive impact. That said, if you’re someone who requires a lot of structure, direction, or hand-holding, this might not be the best fit. Similarly, we are always adjusting to industry trends, technology innovations, and market conditions. As such, we have many competing priorities and you will need to pivot quickly and get comfortable with incremental gains rather than perfection. Again, you just have to be realistic about the environment you need to feel successful. Like any fast-growing company on the path to profitability, we face challenges with operational scalability, process and alignment, especially as the complexity of our product, our teams, and our industry evolve. There are still internal processes that could be optimized with more strategic investment in resources and expertise, tighter alignment within cross-functional teams, and data-driven decisioning to drive growth. However, leadership is aware and invested in solving these issues. It’s true that Braze’s compensation may not always be in line with the market, but compared to many tech companies, we have been particularly fiscally responsible. This approach has helped us maintain stability in uncertain times, which, as an employee shareholder, is important. I encourage anyone considering a job at Braze to listen to our CEO and CFO on an earnings call. That said, we are at a pivotal moment in our growth. To continue driving success, we need to ensure we have the right resources and processes in place while maintaining our disciplined approach to spending. Striking that balance—investing wisely in talent and infrastructure while staying financially responsible—will be key to sustaining our momentum and ensuring our market dominance.

Pros

Braze has a good product. Comp is average to slightly below average for the industry. A lot of smart people pass through the doors of Braze. Most of them don't last long.

Cons

Product: Between legacy tech companies moving into customer engagement and smaller startups with similar / cheaper products, Braze's future looks pretty bleak. Equity: Braze's stock price has been in free fall for more than a year and is still overvalued at $20. Your equity might be worthless by the time you vest. Career growth: Internal promotions are few and far between and are never based on quality of work or merit. More often than not, people with no understanding of the product or industry are hired to manage long-tenured experts who didn't need managing in the first place. Culture: High achieving, competent people at Braze are seen as a threat to leadership. They eventually get fed up and leave because they can't get promoted or are forced to answer to managers that were hired over them for jobs they deserved. When they leave, they take their expertise to competitors or other industries and 3 or 4 people are usually needed to do the work they leave behind. Leadership: Braze churns through VPs + middle management at an alarming clip. Great leaders quit because they're not prepared for the micromanagement they endure and can't actually get anything done. The ones that seem to stick were only hired because they worked at Zendesk w/ the CBO or at Salesforce with someone in the Sales org. Not because they have relevant management experience, understand strategy, or the product.
