Hard Work, Good Pay - Bike Courier Breakaway Courier Employee Review

Pros

When I was with Breakaway I was working at a Whole Foods in SoHo. I liked that I made my own hours and could call out anytime as long as I gave them notice within 24 hours, and although they pay minimum, you get a lot of supplemental cash from tips. I was earning, on average, between $25-$30 an hour.

Cons

The work is really hard. Although they adjust the weight they send you out with based on what they have determined your limit is, there is no way for them to give you extra protection from overworking your body, the danger of cars, or the cold in winter. I liked the job, but in the end I had to quit because it was becoming too much for my lower back to handle consistently.

Pros

Great if you're; an avid cyclist, If you love being outside, Admiring beautiful buildings, seeking challenges, want to work hard, self improvement, builds character and humility. Freedom.

Cons

Self management, avoiding traffic, dealing with rude and not helpful security guards and mailroom clerks, sometimes dispatch will contact you if you made a mistake and they speak to you with a demeaning street mentality, for the most part i've had good interactions with everyone else it was honestly one dispatch i had an issue with but i try to do my best so i can avoid problems. The compensation could be better because as a courier you make a commision off each delivery and how long you are holding so every day is different, not saying its a huge con, but definitely you have to do a lot of deliveries to pay your rent and eat well.
