Pros

Brookfield Renewable is a dynamic and socially responsible entreprise active in renewable energy. Its exactly the right mix between a profit-generating corporation and a good-citizen participating in building a more sustainable future. Employees are proud to work for a company that contributes to a greener future, while feeling secure in their employment knowing that the organization generates profit. The organization is very dynamic, with a median age lower than at most corporations or public-sector employment. There is ample opportunity to grow within the organization, vertically or horizontally, with the possibility of moving to one of the many offices in North America and abroad. The work load is constant, with never a dull-moment, but work/life balance is well-maintained with HR and managers who understand and facilitate solutions. Beyond the business, Brookfield is also very active in its community and employees are encouraged to participate. Notably, employees can join the fund-raising efforts of the 24h of Tremblant: mixing a weekend of team-building/skiing/running with the actual benefit of raising money for local charities. The team-building and social committee activities ensure that the employees have an opportunity to interact outside the office and make lasting relationships. The office building is brand new (2015) and the setting is all open-office concept, including for the bosses. The setting is very well lit, with ample fenestration. Kitchens are available, bike lockers, showers and even free gym! The offices are located in downtown Gatineau, with plenty of restaurants and shops around.

Cons

The offices are located in downtown Gatineau. While this is not a problem for most, it makes for a different commute than in major city centers like Montreal and Toronto. Transit is possible from both Ottawa and Gatineau, but is not as efficient as in metropolitan areas. Driving is rather quick but the cost of parking is high (200$). Cycling is the preferred method of transport for many during the warm months and some even walk to the office. I recommend checking your transit choices before deciding where to live.
