Pros
Decent pay, good benefits. You can learn a great deal as this is a very busy level one trauma center that cares for very sick patients. Good resources to learn from.
Cons
Worst job I have ever worked as a nurse. Managers are completely incompetent. Many have never actually worked as an ED nurse. Hospital administrators do not care about employees at all, you are completely replaceable and of little to no value to the company. I have never been so micro managed in my life or had my back ground/knowledge so questioned. I came from another ER out of state, and our practice was more autonomous and collaborative with the physicians. No ability to use nursing judgement, zero autonomy. Nurses are stuck waiting for indecisive and inexperienced residents to place orders. The flow of the department is very slow. Lots of push back from the floors so patients board in the ED for hours, sometimes days. Entire department needs restructuring. I was completely burned out from this experience and actually left ED nursing because of this.
