Pressure - Team Lead Buc-ee's Employee Review

Pros

-The team members are hard working and kind, because they have to be in order to maintain a job at Buc-ee's -Although people have been fighting for a $15 minimum wage for so long that minimum wage should be at $23/hour this day and age, Buc-ee's does do *slightly* better than other retail jobs out there by starting their employees at $13/hour and offering 2 weeks of paid time off per year

Cons

-The pressure: Buc-ee's gets busy, and is always changing. If the customers or managers don't put on the pressure, then the expectations and changes from corporate will. -Like any other job, you will be expected to work. However, unlike any other job, you will only have ONE break that will last for an entire 5 minutes. Do not bother bringing food from home that needs to be microwaved, because the time it takes to warm up your food will eat up your entire break. You can bring a cold food from home, but they do not provide an employee fridge. This severely limits your options and basically necessitates that you purchase their food for your "break" (they call it a "moment"). -You will be required to wear a specific type of shirt that only Buc-ee's sells, and this shirt is sold only to employees. They have a monopoly on the shirts and jackets that you are required to purchase for the opportunity to work at Buc-ee's. The shirts are about $14, and the jackets are about $24. -You are only allowed to be late a total of 3 times per year at Buc-ee's. If you are 1 minute late to clocking in, you are considered late and you will need to fill out a form to state your reason and your acceptance of this occurance. -If multiple people are late for the same reason (a car accident, a road obstruction, etc), you must all state the same reason for being late when you fill out the late form with HR, and if something like 14 of you are late for the same reason, then the tardy will be excused. THEY DO NOT TELL YOU THIS WHEN YOU ARE FILLING OUT THE FORM. So, even if 30 of you are late for the same reason, if at least 14 of you don't put the reason in writing, then too bad, so sad. -One no-call, no-show (without a documented emergency) is grounds for immediate termination. -If you use the restroom too much (sorry, ladies who are menstruating or may be pregnant), they will notice and make you feel bad about it. -They will throw out thousands of useful products just for missing punctuation or some minor aesthetic flaw instead of donating it. They are incredibly wasteful. -They will throw out food that is still good instead of feeding their employees. -Whatever you are doing while working, it is not enough. -This place turns kind people into balls of stress and anxiety. I saw the kindest, most cheerful people slowly degrade into these overly-stressed, depressed, cynical. -Middle management likely cares about their team, but corporate does not. They only care about the bottom line. Ultimately, they do not care about their employees. Their employees are disposable. -I vouched for this company for a while, but I could never recommend that anyone work here. You will ultimately feel worthless, like a cog in the machine, because to them, you are. But, they will do the bare minimum to appear like they care, and they encourage you and other associates to push the "we work hard and are better than everyone else" mentality. It's a tactic that works to bully, ignore, or think little of those in need, and uplifts those who push that narrative.

Pros

The employees are amazing and very kind. It’s sad they have to go through what they go through with toxic management.

Cons

The management there sucks. Most are 2 faced. They do not realize that they are in a small town and that to local people they are just a more expensive version of Walmart. Actually I would pick Walmart over this Buc-ee’s any day. I had 4 interviews with them for them not to even give a reason to why they wouldn’t hire except I was not Buc-ee’s material. If anyone knows what that means…… they micromanage everything. Employees are scared to do anything bc they never know when they will be fired at any giving second of the day. This place is suppose to be family oriented but they definitely are not…. This is a terrible place to work. You’re always in fear of loosing your job,. Money sounds good but it is not worth it if you want to keep your sanity.
