Pros

First dibs on discounted brand-name merchandise. You are told what upcoming styles and trends to look out for and to focus on. Which is cool if you aren't actually fashion forward. Perks: Monthly bonus, if the store and company makes its goal(fills the bucket); earn gift cards for punctuality; health, vision, and dental insurance; vacation days for FT & PT. Hours are pretty straight forward, so there is minimal schedule conflict. Openers 9-5, Mids 10-6,11-7,12-8.

Cons

Hours: As an opener, you rarely get out at on time. If it is a busy day, you are looking at getting out close to 6-6:30. There are specific days and holidays that you must work, otherwise you'll get fired: This includes the Christmas Eve rush and New Years Eve(ning) for the quarterly inventory. You must also attend the monthly store meetings: being late or missing one has serious consequences. Management and "herd"/team: Eventhough the management/leaders team is very efficient, they are also incredibly unprofessional. The "whatever, I'm above you" attitude that the buyers and a few of the higher-up managers exhibit to customers is reflected in the mostly negative yelp reviews. There are plenty of rude customers that walk in and out of the store everyday, which gets real old real fast, but there are plenty of other customers and sellers that become victim to the catty atmosphere that is this hipster resale store. Occasionally, some of the higher-up managers and the senior employees will set a low price for an item that they want, or buy in fake designer pieces and look the other way. If the management team does not personally like you, or if you don't fit in with the "herd", they will find some loophole to fire you. There seems to be one or two oddball employee every season that slips through the cracks. Trust me, you become very tight with your co-workers and managers/leads, and will hangout outside of work, and what not, but this is still a very petty and catty work environment and an anonymous review on a job website will feel like your only safe place. Pay: Buyers usually star out around $9.75, and you receive peanuts as a raise. Customers: as you are going through a sellers bag of clothing, needles will fall out of the torn pockets of the urine/discharged-stained garments, and as you politely decline their items, the sellers will berate you for *clearly* having no sense of style. Needles and bodily fluids is a rare happening, but there are at least 2 sensitive sellers per shift that will let you know that you are as scummy as the crotch of the pants and leotards they tired to sell you.

Pros

you learn a lot about clothes

Cons

literally the worst job i can possibly imagine. you’re expected to be on top of register, buying in clothes, customers stealing, dressing room, talking to the customers on the floor, counting in and out the money, etc 100% all of the time. they expect you to overextend yourself the entire shift. i have never had to be on top of so many things in my life. i have more responsibilities than the MANAGERS at my last job do for far less pay. and we are in downtown portland so we get a lot of theft and have to deescalate mental health crises constantly. every employee i’ve talked to has agreed with me that they’ve never felt like a bad employee before working here. i pride myself on being smart and helpful and quickly learning the rules of any environment im in but i’ve never felt more stupid in my life. there is literally no time to take a breath in the entire 8hr shift
