Pros

Work/life balance is good for someone at my position although I see a lot of younger staff being inundated projects and given minimal guidance, mentorship or training. Good coworkers within my office but collaboration between different cities and regions could be improved. Exposure to a range of projects within different regions, nationally and internationally. Wage increases have recently improved (still not comparable to direct competitors) but previously was 1%-3% pa. Generous working from home allowance.

Cons

High staff turnover. Uncompetitive wages. Upper and middle management don't listen to concerns of staff. Business lacks technical experts and proficiently in certain services they offer to clients resulting in poor quality deliverables. Business is not supportive of women taking maternity leave and lacks cultural diversity. Poor visibility and organisation around new upcoming projects and distributing workloads, some staff are constantly working unpaid overtime whilst other staff members are twiddling their thumps for 2/5 working days a week. Company is using initiatives spearheaded by their staff with no support or financial reinbursement from the firm and rebranding it as a CDM Smith initiative - credit is due where credit is due. Lack of genuine company initiative to support communities, charities and social issues despite being on the firms advertised commitments. Sometimes the company acts more like a labour hire firm for clients rather than a consultancy firm offering services and technical expertise - I have not experienced this in any other consulting firm.

Pros

Flexible hybrid schedule is very nice and starting salary is high for early career engineers.

Cons

The main people running the company are not engineers and you can tell. They are all focused on utilization with rates often set at 97% or higher. This had led to my supervisor asking/telling me to not charge company required trainings. As an early engineer it really feels like they don't want to invest in me and only care about their bottom line. If you are an early career structural engineer you will also not get any meaningful work until you've been with the company for at least 5 years. The senior engineers do not trust you and will only give you grunt work.
