Pros

Pros if you're the CEO, any member of the board or SMD/MD level with bucket loads of shares. This select group of individuals pay themselves record dividends every single year whilst depriving other employees of reasonable opportunities, benefits and compensation.

Cons

There are few companies in financial services that misrepresent themselves like CME does. This company makes unimaginable profits when the rest of the world struggles through times of unprecedented volatility and uncertainty. Under the guise of “risk management” it provides a mechanism for glorified gambling for corporations or “speculators”. Meanwhile, its platform and its largely cash settled contracts negatively influence the prices of almost everything the rest of us consume. CME is a wonderful place to work if you’re a white hetro male working in sales. This is the only place you can expect to get a reasonable pay rise or promotion. Despite sales being unable to quantify in real terms what it is they actually do, or achieve, for the business, they are overcompensated and overvalued above all other divisions. CME’s claims of supporting D&I are purely marketing tactics with no genuine meaningful action ever made. The CEO is a disgrace. At every all-employee meeting he declares that he is single handedly propping up this entire business. Despite record profits, he will not commit to giving every employee a raise to match inflation whilst he, the board and every SMD/MD pay themselves record dividends for all the hard work they’ve done from their corner offices. Your division head will not be interested in your protests to the vast levels of inequality across this business because they continue to enjoy the privilege of their own dividend generating position. You problems are not their problems.

Pros

- Friendly working environment. - Slow-paced and relaxed. - Opportunity to work on high-impact financial software. Quite useful if you want to get into a trading firm later on.

Cons

- Limited skill growth capability (tools are severely locked down, etc) - Work life balance can be shaky sometimes since systems fail after 5pm, weekend, etc. - Documentation is terribly organized. - Not enough focus on engineering culture. Overall probably not the best place to stick around if you like exploring new skills, building from the ground up, taking ownership etc.
