Pros

Good income, great coworkers, options for career direction and opportunities

Cons

The hours of work for crews are difficult to deal with already, and the company seems to think trying reducing rest periods in between shifts and trips for our next contract is a good idea. This is jus one example about how a company that claims "safety is number one" does just the opposite. In such a safety critical industry as the railroad it is shocking how much management disregards employees health and well being for higher productivity. Plainly spoken it comes down to money matters more than lives

Pros

Pays decently well for first job out of college. My manager and team are very reasonable with expectations placed on new hires. Working after office hours (past 4:30pm) is extremely rare and only expected in emergencies.

Cons

Very slow and/or limited job growth potential. Promotions into middle management are almost purely based on reputation with middle managers who are largely people with previous field experience. This is very disadvantageous to direct-from-college hires like myself and even my current manager.
