Pros

Great workplace with awesome people. Lots to do everyday, plenty going on to keep busy and improve. A high quality product was expected, and CN did a great job of hiring well rounded people. If you didn't perform after ~1 year, you would be let go with a reasonable compensation package. I witnessed a round of these layoffs and it was impressive to see a company actually value and respond to middle management regarding employee performance and expectations. All employees were well aware of who was under-performing. Too often these employees are kept around as 'dead weight.' CN, however, did not keep them around and it meant your colleagues are high quality as a result. Slightly above average compensation for the industry.

Cons

Expected increases in responsibility without discussing salary increases concurrently.

Thank you for sharing your constructive feedback. With a 24/7/365 operation, CN could not function without our dedicated employees. We thank you for your hard work and hope you shared your thoughts with our colleague during your exit interview so we can develop strategies to do better in the future.

Pros

Pays decently well for first job out of college. My manager and team are very reasonable with expectations placed on new hires. Working after office hours (past 4:30pm) is extremely rare and only expected in emergencies.

Cons

Very slow and/or limited job growth potential. Promotions into middle management are almost purely based on reputation with middle managers who are largely people with previous field experience. This is very disadvantageous to direct-from-college hires like myself and even my current manager.
