Pros

People are great, projects are awesome, but if you have options, do not work in IT. Benefits are nice, it’s one of the few companies where you do not have to speak French in Quebec.

Cons

If you work in as a service like It, Can get fired at a moments notice, regardless of your performance. They will find a way to get it done cheaper. They work you to the bone instead of hiring the right amount of people to do the job. Management doesn’t care about what their people think or their potential, you’re a cost to them and you need to justify why you work there whenever they ask the question.

Pros

Pays decently well for first job out of college. My manager and team are very reasonable with expectations placed on new hires. Working after office hours (past 4:30pm) is extremely rare and only expected in emergencies.

Cons

Very slow and/or limited job growth potential. Promotions into middle management are almost purely based on reputation with middle managers who are largely people with previous field experience. This is very disadvantageous to direct-from-college hires like myself and even my current manager.
