      Safety hypocrites - Conductor CN Employee Review

      Pros

      Nothing. They don’t even pay you good until you qualify.

      Cons

      Overworked, underpaid when you’re new. They say safety is important but constantly break their own rules to get faster results. Managers are fine breaking rules and conductors are even better at it. Nobody cares here. The safety situation is hypocritical. Most senior employees treat everyone like garbage. No respect in the work place. OJTs lie right to your face about your progress. Trainers are working for management. They will fire you for any reason even if it’s made up.

      Pros

      Pays decently well for first job out of college. My manager and team are very reasonable with expectations placed on new hires. Working after office hours (past 4:30pm) is extremely rare and only expected in emergencies.

      Cons

      Very slow and/or limited job growth potential. Promotions into middle management are almost purely based on reputation with middle managers who are largely people with previous field experience. This is very disadvantageous to direct-from-college hires like myself and even my current manager.
