Pros

Generous amount of vacation days, 10 paid sick days, and 3 paid personal days but employees are often expected to work during their time off.

Cons

Women, especially those with children, have very little chance to work their way up in the company and HR doesn't even try to hide this fact. The company goes out of it's way to put pictures of visible minorities and women on their website and in their pamphlets, but it is still very much a white/male dominated company that discriminates based on gender/family status. You would think that having a female CEO would have changed this culture, but it hasn't. They've cut a lot of positions in the past 8 years, so the remaining employees are doing the workload of 2 to 3 people. The worst part is that the people working through evenings, weekends and vacation to get the work done, can never get promoted. The company prefers to keep those people at the bottom because they get the work done. The company knows it won't be able to find new employees, from a younger generation, willing to work evenings, weekends and vacation to manage the workload of 2 to 3 people. They claim that compensation is within the industry standard, but if you take your pay and divide it by the number of hours you actually work, you're not making much per hour. It's no wonder the company has a difficult time recruiting and retaining employees. The younger generations aren't typically willing to work beyond their required 40 hours and definitely not willing to work during time off. The results of the employee survey shows that only about 50% of employees trust CN executives. That says a lot about a company when only 50% of employees trust their executives.

Pros

Pays decently well for first job out of college. My manager and team are very reasonable with expectations placed on new hires. Working after office hours (past 4:30pm) is extremely rare and only expected in emergencies.

Cons

Very slow and/or limited job growth potential. Promotions into middle management are almost purely based on reputation with middle managers who are largely people with previous field experience. This is very disadvantageous to direct-from-college hires like myself and even my current manager.
