Pros

Comfortable work environment, office is new and modern. Workload among staff seemed balanced for most. Excellent benefits which include weekly telecommuting, summer flex and tuition reimbursement. Company events were well-put together. Overall, a decent place for a year or two.

Cons

As far as office culture, there are quite of few employees who are not particularly friendly nor inclusive...quite a few introverts on staff. Not the type of environment where someone will smile and say 'Good Morning' as they pass by you. I would have to agree with a previous post regarding gossip around the office being plentiful and distracting. Promotions seemed very unbalanced and given to those mainly working within programs (and even those were limited). Friends of managers would get promoted more quickly than other employees. Longtime employees were laid-off so there may be concerns of funding issues along with outsourcing of certain functions. Salaries are low (its a nonprofit organization, so not surprising), and increases are minimal (you're forced to leave or will have to snag a promotion if you don't want to continue receiving very small salary increases per year). Manager was not interested with my career growth and actually impeded it, plus promoted a culture of blame rather than finding solutions to issues that arose. Company's administrative functions could be more organized. The company's strategic vision was not as clear as it could be, and a lot of company resources seemed unnecessarily spent on superficial company communications/rebranding efforts instead of proposal submissions/finding new sources of funding/organizational development.

Pros

Transparent, and open management, excellent benefits, top nut employees

Cons

We're all affected by these extreme changes in the US government so it's a bit stressful to try and diversify our portfolio quickly
