Pros
Very strong and large company with good health benefits, 401k match, etc. This is why I've given the company 2 stars instead of 1.
Cons
This is a review of Oldcastle Texas. As I understand it, each region is run very differently and I don't want to act like I know what goes on in those other areas as a salesperson. Jewell / Oldcastle is a very political place to work. The "executive management team" which were all promoted by glad handing their way to the top, has their own small clique and their own favorites. I've seen the top earning, most hardworking employees "laid off" due to performance. This "management team" breeds a culture of fear and if you're not part of this good ol boy network there is a high chance of being let go no matter what your performance or the performance of the company. This upper management team consistently gossips and talks about employees publicly to other employees. Human resources and the "leadership" are the biggest offenders here. I've been long enough tenured here to have become close to this group for my own safety and security at this company. I've also had good friends work their tails off for Jewell and be let go for no fault of their own, losing everything and putting their families in a terrible position. This happens several times a year with great and amazing people. Everything about this company is inconsistent which you wouldn't think being under the umbrella of a multi billion dollar company. Commission rates are all over the board and usually are based on relationships and friendships with "upper management". Luckily I've worked myself up to the higher end here. As salespeople we are told to go in one direction and then another direction just weeks later putting us in a terrible place with our customers consistently. There is no clear or coherent strategy and the company is run by daily sales reports. This puts tremendous strain on our relationships in the field. The products we manufacture are now of very poor quality and consistency. Which used to not be the case. There is zero quality control and as sales people we are tasked with lying to our customers about testing and what occurred during production on a regular basis. The fact that major claims or failures haven't occurred yet is astonishing. There is zero training for new employees and anyone coming to this company from the outside will never be given a fair chance to succeed. No one, not even the direct managers, take responsibility for this. It's a culture of CYA at all times for self preservation within the job. Finally, if anyone ever dare speak out about the company or any of its issues, like I'm doing right now, you will be completely black balled for the short remainder of your career. OIdcastle has "anonymous" tip lines that are continually called and those employees are then managed out of the company. The only reason I'm writing this is because of the anonymity and my love for the company and how it used to be run for the hopes of improvement.
