Pros

- You're helping others - Very social job - Get to know your donors - Fun place to work - Co-workers are phenomenal - Adjusted pay rates for employee donors - Corporate often gives away money and prizes for center accomplishments - The GM is pretty cool, able to connect with employees

Cons

- You get to know your donors... the good, the bad, and the ugly - It's easy to be made uncomfortable by comments from donors (not for the shy or faint of heart) - Pay is crap. $8.50 starting out to deal with crazy people - Potentially exposing yourself to blood-borne pathogens everyday, with every donor - Compliance (quality control) is pretty difficult and doesn't offer constructive criticism... it's rather harsh - You stand for the whole shift, even in reception, where you'd think that since you're on a computer all day, you'd be sitting for some of it - Work every other weekend - Can get extremely busy and overwhelming... tough economic times=many plasma donors

Pros

I made a lot of friends there, and the employees on the floor were almost always very hard workers

Cons

The higher up in leadership you go the less you actually seem to care for the people actually doing the hardest work on the floor. The donors are often mean and impatient. And don't get kicked out if they are repeatedly an issue on the floor, because that's a loss of plasma. Many centers won't kick out anyone with veins that aren't suitable to be stuck. It's often up to the donor to walk out with two blown veins to decide not to come back.
