Pros
Some positives are: free housing, walkable living/work environment, close friends/coworkers, and lots of professional preparation.
Cons
The contract is inherently flexible to benefit HRE (Housing and Residential Engagement) and gives them room to (sometimes) be highly exploitative of their student employees. Duty training should be the highest priority because it is crucial for RAs to know the ethics and procedures behind certain scenarios, but duty training takes a backseat to customer service training, bonding activities, and attempts to boost enthusiasm. Because RAs have access to keys and resident spaces, some use this authority to negatively impact the community, which is a liability to themselves, their fellow RAs, residents, and the school.
