Pros
Potential for scale of impact is huge eg impact millions of lives Opportunity to get exposure to multiple business units Lots of potential and room for improvement for “change agents” comfortable with slow moving immature product org
Cons
Not a product driven org, operational driven Massive bureaucracy requiring significant percent of time managing your stakeholders v. building products “MBA leadership” team without direct product management experience; results in under appreciation of product management discipline and understanding of what/how to build great products Not a culture of learning No promotion pathway for product people eg director, principle, group Rare if any that I can recall promotions of product people to leadership levels Immature agile adoption and no true cross functional agile teams that can execute through the architecture; hamstrung by “back end systems” Don’t go here and expect to learn from the best and hone your product management chops
