Pros
Not much work expected after hours. Also the staff development funding and time is pretty generous. I've never had a conference or training request turned down.
Cons
There's no incentive to do things well or to care too much. Performance reviews are a joke, and have no bearing on any raises or promotions, so there's no accountability. If you think you deserve a promotion, you have to wait and wait for an opening to be posted, apply, and go through a whole interview process (unless you're somehow in management, they get promotions much more often, and it's not always based on talent/quality of work). There are just too many people here counting down the years until they retire, so nobody's thinking of systems/technology/etc. for the long-term. Very frustrating.
