Pros

Most teams at Calix have a relaxed, people-first culture.

Cons

They offered me 20k under the range posted for the job After layoffs I was expected to complete 4 times as much on call (team of 3 expected to cover 24/7 support) with no additional compensation Poor documentation and testing practices Very inefficient development/release process (but I think it’s improving slowly) Manager/team specific cons: Management will sometimes call me 7/8 pm for non urgent topics that could be discussed the following day. Poor communication. No development plan/ assistance on my career goals

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you have experienced our ‘people-first’ culture as we take great pride in the environment that we create for our employees and the awards that we’ve subsequently won for championing individual and team success. Employee well-being is important to us and we encourage all leaders to respect personal time outside of ‘normal business hours’, though in a global organization, that can be challenging. We’re mindful of the current team’s capacity and are actively recruiting for additional team members to ensure that we have the resources needed to meet our strategic priorities. It sounds like we’ve missed the mark in a few areas regarding team / functional leadership and will pass your feedback along to the team. We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback and ‘make us better’ – we care about your experience and your overall wellbeing and would invite you to connect with your Talent and Culture Business to discuss your feedback in more details.

Pros

Calix offers a highly collaborative, customer‑first environment where strong cross‑functional partnerships are genuinely valued. The culture encourages ownership, accountability, and proactive problem‑solving, especially when supporting high‑impact customers and complex initiatives. Leadership is accessible and supportive, and there’s a real emphasis on continuous improvement, process refinement, and professional growth. If you enjoy meaningful work, transparency, and being trusted to make decisions that positively impact both customers and the business, Calix is a great place to build and grow your career.

Cons

As with many fast‑growing, customer‑focused organizations, the pace at Calix can be demanding, particularly during peak periods or when managing complex, cross‑functional initiatives. Processes and tools are continuously evolving, which can occasionally create ambiguity and require adaptability. Aligning across multiple teams and priorities sometimes takes persistence, and success often depends on being proactive, detail‑oriented, and comfortable navigating change. That said, these challenges tend to come with opportunities for visibility, impact, and growth.
