Pros

Love the challenge of helping some of the most difficult clients in San Mateo County. Solid and supportive, colleagues and management. This is the most supportive work culture that I have worked in. Professional development, solid COVID safety protocols have kept everyone safe throughout the pandemic. I’m not planning on going anywhere.

Cons

This is a job that demands heart and a passion to serve, grit to handle difficult clients, organization skills for heavy and diverse tasks and the ability to rapidly pivot to prioritize clients in crisis and unforeseen problems. For the right person, this is a great opportunity to blossom. For someone just looking for a paycheck, it’s a good way to get thrashed and burnt out.

Pros

I love my colleagues, respectful work environment, flexible office/remote working. I feel lucky to work with my team. Great bosses, great CEO. Caminar's mission and the people they help are inspiring.

Cons

Nonprofit work can be challenging when government and foundation grant support shifts. The stress associated with funding is real. But, that is true for every nonprofit.

Pros

I worked for Caminar's now closed Redwood House. It was an incredible experience and I learned a lot there. The program director and assistant program director were fantastic leaders and created space for learning experiences and could prove their skill through practical engagement with the clients. Training opportunities were usually well thought out and useful.

Cons

Corporate's terrible handling of the closure of numerous acute facilities that they owned. Slow and confused explanations for what needed to be done as part of the closure, resulting in the rushed discharge of clients falling onto our overworked, burnt out staff. Abysmal HR department with one of the slowest hiring rate and potential employee retention I have ever seen. Low staffing meant constant overtime and back to back graveyard shifts. Sluggish to keep wages competitive and within the needs of QoL. An increasingly detached senior management.
