Pros

Benefits, helping people, variety of programs

Cons

Just because an agency claims that they embrace diversity and are an equal opportunity employer, it doesn’t mean that they are. This non profit has discriminated against qualified applicants on a regular basis who continue to apply, some applicants have been applying for over a year, meet all qualifications, but continue to not be given any interviews and the positions applied for remain available for hire, HR simply will repost the job after discriminating against qualified applicants. Also, they are one of the few non profits that have a drug testing requirement which is so stupid and a waste of time and money.

Pros

I love my colleagues, respectful work environment, flexible office/remote working. I feel lucky to work with my team. Great bosses, great CEO. Caminar's mission and the people they help are inspiring.

Cons

Nonprofit work can be challenging when government and foundation grant support shifts. The stress associated with funding is real. But, that is true for every nonprofit.

Pros

I worked for Caminar's now closed Redwood House. It was an incredible experience and I learned a lot there. The program director and assistant program director were fantastic leaders and created space for learning experiences and could prove their skill through practical engagement with the clients. Training opportunities were usually well thought out and useful.

Cons

Corporate's terrible handling of the closure of numerous acute facilities that they owned. Slow and confused explanations for what needed to be done as part of the closure, resulting in the rushed discharge of clients falling onto our overworked, burnt out staff. Abysmal HR department with one of the slowest hiring rate and potential employee retention I have ever seen. Low staffing meant constant overtime and back to back graveyard shifts. Sluggish to keep wages competitive and within the needs of QoL. An increasingly detached senior management.
