Pros

Vacation trips and bonus gift cards i guess. Best case scenario from working here: gain buisness work experience in the IT public sector

Cons

Working here will most likely be a nightmare. The off-chance it isn't one then you got lucky and got put on a good team or good manager. On the other hand, you will most likely be micromanaged, told not to do certain things only to see others do it(hypocrisy is rampant here), will not find enough parking, and will realize that they only people they hire are either low-IQ people, an attractive women or people too scared to stand up for themselves. I mean over 50% of the employees are from Radford. The first time I visisted Radford I found countless people passed out before I made it to my dorm. It's a party school gone way too far and off the edges. There are few good people but the vast majority of awful people outnumber them tremendously. You can see what kind of company this is by simply looking at the reviews on any site. For example, the top comment here on Glassdoor for Carahsoft is a fake comment created by someone on the Marketing team and you can see more of them such as on Google Reviews. I started here a little over a year ago and noticed the people they hire and the managers' behavior. I tried to be better than them and take the higher road, but working here will just bring you down either from the stupidity and illogicality of the higher ups or the sheer "I dont care" attitude from your coworkers about all their work because even though they say that there is a bonus, that is a lie. Yes, there is a bonus but everybody that works there gets a bonus no matter how much work you do. The reason it is a bonus and not part of the whole salary even though we consistently get bonuses every pay period is because Craig Abod, the CEO, is trying to avoid taxes or pay less taxes by enforcing this bonus salary structure. However, this is advertised as a sales position with bonuses. What is the point of bonuses if there is no incentive to achieving them? That makes no sense why not just include it in our salary. In addition, during the month of Sept., we have a busy season where it is our most busy time of the year. There are cash prizes here, but in the form of american express gift cards which Craig also uses to write-off more taxes which is why he chooses gift cards over including it in our salary: so he pays less taxes. He gives us alcohol instead of money, so he can write-off the expense in his taxes. He sends us to foreign trips so he can write-off more taxes. ANYTHING NICE THIS COMPANY DOES I GUARANTEE ITS FOR AN EVIL REASON, MOST LIKE TAX AVOIDANCE. Let's not forget that you can't leave the office during busy season until 7 p.m. even if you have LITERALLY NOTHING TO DO. THEY PREFER YOU TO DO NOTHING AT THE DESK UNTIL 7 PM RATHER THAN SEND YOU HOME BEFORE. The higher ups are nothing but drones that try to fully embody Craig Abod. People here do not question those that are higher up. They blindly follow them without even thinking and Craig loves that because he can then manipulate these people in doing his dirty deeds like tax write-offs. The sad part is these managers and directors just take it. much sad. Oh yeah, they don't even have a HR for a company that has 5 floors of people and over 1000 employees. Let's not also forget that Craig's own brother runs the 401K too, so shady. Worst Case: you end up losing your drive and begin wondering what you're doing here and maybe in life.

Pros

4.5 years working at Carahsoft, I’ve seen and heard it all. Work from home, too many people take this for granted. They promote within! Plenty of opportunity to move up if you work hard and deserve obviously. Work hard, be proactive, take accountability, be reliable, consistent aka do your job and you aren’t micromanaged. If the above is done, they compensate you very nicely. Craig pays 50% of health insurance (not sure if this has changed for new hires) that is unheard of and extremely helpful. Insurance is great, never had any issues. Craig cares and does so much for his employees, way more than I think some people deserve and take for granted. Team Trip, 401k match, Shoe Day, Epic Bar Tab, Reggae Fest, milestone and birthday gift cards, Trophy Bottle, snack boxes, and more.

Cons

They hire kids right out of college with zero work ethic and work experience. They don’t fire people enough, you have a handful of top performers picking up the slack for their colleagues and carrying the team. 60+% of my pay is bonus which makes tax season daunting and stressful.
