Carahsoft has become fanatically obsessed with monitoring employee "activity" and calls out employees who are "inactive" for short periods of time. This has lead to employees feeling a need to "fill time" artificially-such as intentionally working slowly, making calls for the sake of it (as a pose to the goal of finding leads), and leaving long voice messages to appear busy. Overall, this maniacal North Korean style surveillance has lead to: 1. Pressure to appear busy (as a pose to being productive. e.i. intentionally working slow, fake calls/voice messages) 2.Reduced mental breaks and burnout(high turnover) 3.Fear and Anxiety in non-managerial employees 4. Lack of Trust and Autonomy Overall, this intense surveillance has resulted in a fearful unproductive workforce that is more focused on appearing active as a pose to actually being productive. Congrats to senior management! You guys have incentivized the very behavior you were trying to prevent.
