It's an incredibly stressful work environment. One of their "core values" that they drill into you is "Do more with less." This means fewer employees with lower pay are asked to do more on the job. Work/life balance is hard to maintain. Your managers and their managers all work from home outside of office hours. Salary employees never stop working. Someone cries in the office at least once a week due to the high demand. I'm constantly given new tasks, reports, and audits on top of my already busy schedule.
Half the time when I reach out to a supervisor for clarification, they don't respond. I don't blame them since their plate is just as full as mine. They don't have time to train you. It's a sink or swim environment. Either you figure it out and make an educated guess, or you fail and get written up for not doing so.
Thankfully, I have experience from other management companies to know what to do, but I feel terrible for anyone that's new to property management and are joining Cardinal. The communication is lacking overall.
One of my biggest complaints is going to be a lack of compassion towards our residents. Some of the fees are outrageous, and policy changes always negatively affect them. We're told to not communicate to the residents about the changes that will happen in the next lease term because we'd rather have them sign first and be bound to their contract. We only do what is legal. Past that, we do what we can to get more money. We had a management takeover and our residents are being faced with new charges constantly. I don't want to get into specifics to reveal my property, but it's sad what we're asked to do for the benefit of more profit. It's been on my conscience, and I'm looking for a new job.
