Pros

I've been with CareFirst for over 10 years. In that 10 years, I have witnessed HUGE transformation. The current CEO has spearheaded a lot of efforts to create a better work environment for CareFirst employees. There are some great things that have been implemented under his leadership. CareFirst expanded benefits and has a great work/life balance now. However, with that change comes a lot of uncertainty, and just as with any company, there are pockets of the organization with great leadership, mediocre leadership and poor leadership. There are teams that were eliminated and some that were added. Overall, I think the company is headed in the right direction. The COVID response has been fantastic and 55% of the workforce is expected to remain remote full-time.

Cons

CareFirst is a not-for-profit and does not pay as well as other companies in the area. Additionally, internal promotions are not equitable and do not pay market rate. The reason I am currently looking to leave my current role is because I can easily make 20-30k more in the same role at a different company. External hires are given a leg up, as they need to meet market rate in order to bring the talent in. Once you are in, unless you make the right connections, your career will stall.

Pros

I have a supportive team, my leadership encourages work-life balance, the company culture is very pleasing to me, plenty of leadership presence and transparency about company happenings, and the employee benefits are phenomenal.

Cons

I genuinely don't have anything negative to say at this moment.

Pros

Ability to work from home.

Cons

Extremely low salary for 2026. Far too much work to stay afloat. Everyone is on PTO constantly which makes training/help almost impossible. Tenured employees are unavailable majority of the time and leave unfinished work on your plate to deal with.
